Pieter Claesz 1630 Vanitas Still Life Skull Books Dutch Master Art Print
Pieter Claesz’s 1630 Vanitas — a skull resting on old books beside an overturned glass and pocket watch. Profound and beautiful.
Description
Pieter Claesz's 1630 Vanitas still life arranges a human skull atop worn books, with an overturned glass, a snuffed oil lamp, and a pocket watch with blue ribbon on a green cloth — a meditation on the passage of time. The subdued, smoky palette is pure Dutch Golden Age mastery. Striking in studies, libraries, and dark-academia interiors, and a compelling gift for philosophy and art lovers.
