Kitano Tsunetomi Umekawa in Snow 1923 Japanese Beauty Poster
The heroine Umekawa bows her head in falling snow in Kitano Tsunetomi’s tender 1923 portrait.
Description
This 1923 woodblock by Kitano Tsunetomi portrays the heroine Umekawa wrapped in a blue kimono as white camellia petals drift through the air. Her downcast gaze and soft palette give the scene a quiet, poetic melancholy. A beautiful example of Taisho-era bijinga for collectors of Japanese art.
